What to Expect

Here’s everything you need to know about your first lesson and ongoing sessions at the studio.

What to Expect

Studio Location and Parking

Location

You can view the studio location below or by clicking here.

Parking

You can park in front of the house near the tall palm tree. You can also park across the street near the grass and pool area.

Arrival and Lesson Times

If you arrive early, there might be a lesson in progress. You’re free to wait, but in the summer months this can get hot since there is not currently an indoor waiting area.

The front gate: I usually keep the gate open, but if it’s shut, feel free to try to open it. If it's locked, I might be in a remote lesson and will unlock it at our lesson time.

Studio entrance: Once through the gate, the door on your left, with the glass.

If it's your lesson time, feel free to knock on the door to let me know you’ve arrived. I try hard to be very punctual. If it’s your scheduled time, I will answer the door shortly, but might need a minute to wrap up a lesson.

If you arrive late, please realize your lesson will still end at the scheduled time if I have prior commitments and especially if I have another lesson to teach.

If I'm running late, which I try to rarely do, I will communicate with you and you will still receive your full lesson.

Your First Lesson

When we first meet, I'll ask some questions to get to know more about your experience, history, issues, goals, and ask about any concerns or questions you have about your voice. Talking for a few minutes helps and can also help relax some of you that might be a bit nervous.

Once acquainted, we'll do some scales. This will help me identify what’s happening in your voice and what we need to work on.

You should be prepared to sing a song. If an original, you can bring an instrument if you’d like, or use the piano or acoustic guitar available here. If you'd like, you can airdrop/email your own track to sing to. You can also sing to a karaoke track (here) or to any song you want.

I love what I do, and I love seeing people improve. I can usually get results pretty quickly and I find that the majority of people not only love their first lesson, but usually want to come back, and soon.

Ongoing Lessons and Scheduling Options

Most people continue after their first lesson and often book the next one right away once they feel and hear the results.

Weekly lessons are most common. 30- and 45-minute sessions work well for most beginners, and consistency matters early on. Some prefer 60-minute weekly lessons when time and budget allow. Children under 12 usually do better with 30 minutes, though there are exceptions.

Others do 60-minute lessons every other week to reduce travel, or every other week for schedule or budget reasons. Some professionals who already maintain their voice reach out every month or so to schedule.

You can keep a regular day and time for weekly or bi-weekly lessons, or book as needed (when slots are available) through the scheduling system.

We’ll figure out what works best for you based on your goals and availability. Regular slots tend to fill quickly.

Ways to Save Money

Package deals are available. If you pay for 12 lessons, you get a 15% discount.

Studio Policies

No drugs, alcohol, or weapons are allowed in the studio.

Please get my permission before taking photos or videos of me that you plan to post online.

Please be on time. If you need to use the restroom, do so before your lesson ends so it doesn’t run into the next person’s time.

Minors must have an adult present for the entire lesson.

Lessons must be paid for before or at the time of the lesson. A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule. Lessons canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged in full.
