About Jeremy Bruce
Jeremy has taught talent ranging from rock stars, pop stars, actors, speakers, Eurovision contestants, American Idol contestants, an X Factor winner, and celebrities. A past VIP Certified Instructor and formerly trained Level 2 Speech Level Singing Teacher with experience in recording and performance, his background in psychology and knowledge of the music industry has shaped a practical, results-focused approach to teaching.
He majored in music in college. A strong DIY approach led him into voice, digital distribution, music theory, recording, online promotion, marketing, design, development, and the music business — areas he still researches and enjoys learning about.
He has consulted artists and companies on branding, online marketing, advertising, affiliations, design, development, and promotion. His real passion remains the human voice and how it works.
Jeremy worked in the field of psychology from 1996 through 2005. That background has shaped a teaching style that is both technically clear and supportive of the mental side of performance.
“I’ve worked with students ranging from 3 to 75 years old and have taught many styles. The beauty of my teaching technique is that there is no definitive style. This allows the singer to progress forward vocally without altering their own unique style. I believe in a friendly, caring, positive environment and approach to teaching that is both relaxed, effective, and highly professional.”
Frustrated with his own singing, Jeremy sought out the best vocal instruction available and discovered Speech Level Singing (SLS). He studied with Seth Riggs (the technique’s founder), Dave Stroud, Greg Enriquez, Vanessa Purdy, Jeffrey Skouson, Wendy Parr, and other top instructors.
SLS was founded by Seth Riggs. Dave Stroud later helped organize and refine the method so it could be taught more consistently and shared more widely.
Jeremy committed himself to the work and quickly gained a much deeper understanding of his own voice. In 2006 he began teaching the technique, became a certified Speech Level Singing instructor, and was personally asked by Dave Stroud to assist with various aspects of the SLS organization.
When Dave left SLS in March 2010 to found DS Vocology and later released the VocalizeU app, Jeremy continued working with him on aspects of both the company and the app through early 2014. He still considers Dave a close mentor and friend.
In January 2012, Jeremy peacefully resigned from the Speech Level Singing organization as a certified Level 2 instructor. While he continues to value and use the core principles of SLS and still works on his own voice with other instructors, he decided the formal title mattered less than the actual results. He wanted the freedom to study other approaches and teach in the way he felt was most effective for his students.
As of 2018 he maintains a lengthy waiting list at his Peoria, Arizona studio and continues work on additional projects.
